So sorry I missed the 50th Anniversary Music Reunion. I didn't know about it, would have loved to attend. I played hootenannies at Gerde's Folk City, starting in 1966, when Dominic Chianese was the MC and it was located at West 4th Street. Most of it was a blur but I remember the night someone claimed someone else stole their song. I actually started out at the Bitter End in December 1965, and then made the rounds: Gerde's and the Gaslight Cafe. I popped in every once in a  while, into the 70's and early 80's, since I was busy working in the advertising graphic design field, but met and heard many talented people. I recall Gamble Rogers playing there one night, in the early 80's, particularly because his booking agent was a friend and I had arranged for people from the David Letterman show to come see him there. Sadly, Gamble died in October 1991, trying to save a drowning man.

If anyone wants more information on who performed there, wikipedia has a rather extensive list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerde's_Folk_City

A big Than You to everyone, especially Bob Porco for his list of the performers from the 60's. That when I frequented Gerdes. Brings back a lot of 4th Street memories. ;-)

Mark Ross I played at Folk City numerous times, and never got listed in the rmemoirs. Opened for Brownie & Sonny in '67 the 1st time. Mike Porco paid $5, a bottle of beer and a sandwich per night. Thank God I could live on that back then.

Jennifer Zogott Levy Frank Christian, Tom Chapin, Andy Breckman, George Gerdes, Maria Muldaur. Peter Stampfel also, though I can't remember if it was solo, or one of this bands. And although I can't vouch for having seen them myself, I'm relatively sure that Suzanne Vega and Dave Van Ronk played there as well, and I think Michael Hurley.

Al Arioli This seems like a list of names that people might know. I was in a band in the '60s called The Split Level. I think we hold the record for the most consecutive nights at Gerdes - it was weeks and weeks and weeks on end.

Jack Pignatello Jim Kweskin told me last night that he NEVER played Gerdes (as a featured act, at least). Hard to believe, although he did accompany Dylan at one point.

I should have a scanner, no? Bu...t I don't. Boo.

Here's the 8 to graduate from Gerdes to the muppets.... Baez, ronstadt, Alan arkin, Collins, John Denver, johnny cash, Arlo, and Paul Simon. Simon's show was the only muppet show to feature only one artist's music. See More

Sandi Bachom I will say something about booked acts. Paul Colby said that Simon and Garfunkel never played the Bitter End but I have a friend who saw them there, so sometimes, particularly in those days there were booked acts and people who just sat in....those were the days my friends

Kenny Davis I saw Dylan there about 76, same time period that I worled at the Bitter End - it was a siad sight though - Phil Ochs was falling down drunk - I had heard he was depressed because he had never gotten close to Dylan's succes - very sad - he died not long after. This was obviously not a paid performance by Dylan - he was just bouncing around the village with Alan Ginsburg and others.

Welcome Ron. Those were some happy times. I didn't drink beer at the time but with your help I learned how to just drink enough to feel good and no more. Saved me a lot of headaches. Thanks.

Just a quick note.
My good friend Bob Riemann introduced me to Gerdes in 1961. I enjoyed many great performances from then to 1967 when I moved to Californiia.
