Who performed at Gerdes? - The NYC Greenwich Village Music Festival
greenwichvillagemusicfestival.ning.com
Here are the performers that Wikipedia lists as having done a gig at Gerdes: Seems incomplete to me:Joan Baez, Pat Benatar, the Band, Bermuda Triangle Band, Judy Collins, Johnny Cash, T-Bone Burnett, Harry Chapin, Shawn Colvin, Larry Coryell, Elvis Costello, David Crosby, Rev. Gary Davis, John Denve...

Liz Abbott, Marcia Stehr, Stephen Politowicz and 4 others like this.
Mark Ross I played at Folk City numerous times, and never got listed in the rmemoirs. Opened for Brownie & Sonny in '67 the 1st time. Mike Porco paid $5, a bottle of beer and a sandwich per night. Thank God I could live on that back then.

T.j. Colatrella That's more than Paul Colby paid..!

Sandi Bachom oh you guys, love this, come to the Greenwich Village Music Festival site and share, or I'll just do it for you.

Bob Porco Better question: who performed at Gerdes AND was a guest star on The Muppet Show?

Anderson Toone me. ::raises hand:: first time at a hoot I was only 16. sssshhh.

Anderson Toone ‎(not Mike's fault, he didn't know)

Jennifer Zogott Levy Frank Christian, Tom Chapin, Andy Breckman, George Gerdes, Maria Muldaur. Peter Stampfel also, though I can't remember if it was solo, or one of this bands. And although I can't vouch for having seen them myself, I'm relatively sure that Suzanne Vega and Dave Van Ronk played there as well, and I think Michael Hurley.

Anderson Toone I myself saw mark johnson, Sonic Youth, Mark Ross, Eric Frandsen, Lisi Tribble and David Massengill, holy modal rounders, Dave van Ronk, Carolyne Mas, Willie Nile, David Grisman et al,, sugar blue, wretched Refuse jugband, to name a few that aren't listed.
·
Al Arioli This seems like a list of names that people might know. I was in a band in the '60s called The Split Level. I think we hold the record for the most consecutive nights at Gerdes - it was weeks and weeks and weeks on end.

Sandi Bachom oh if it's not terribly much trouble, wish you guys would share your memories of who you saw or if you played at Gerdes or anywhere else in the village for that matter. we're very close to our venture capitol for the festival and all this helps the cause...if not i'll just copy and paste, thank you! http://greenwichvillagemusicfestival.com/

Jack Pignatello Jim Kweskin told me last night that he NEVER played Gerdes (as a featured act, at least). Hard to believe, although he did accompany Dylan at one point.

Sandi Bachom wild Jack. he did play the Bitter End and he did play the Golden Bear, cause I saw them
·
Bob Porco Certainly vega and van ronk. Yes to hurley. Kweskin never listed as a booked act. I have a list in front of me. I promise to work on pasting it on FB, sandi's site and my blog too. Folkcityatfifty.blogspot.com

Betsy Siggins Schmidt early 60s' Charles River Valley Boys, Cambridge Club 47 regulars. Somewhere there maybe a tape of them and Dylan sharing a night. Would LOVE to have access to that for the New England Folk Music Archives
·
Sandi Bachom I will say something about booked acts. Paul Colby said that Simon and Garfunkel never played the Bitter End but I have a friend who saw them there, so sometimes, particularly in those days there were booked acts and people who just sat in....those were the days my friends

Liz Abbott Steve Forbert, Mimi Farina, Josh Joffen, Peter Paul & Mary, Andy Pasternak & The Floor Models, Eric Andersen, Gerry Divine, Mark Sebastian, Rod MacDonald, The Room Mates, Tom Intondi, Jack Hardy, Eric Frandsen, David Massengill, Lizi Trib...

Kenny Davis I saw Dylan there about 76, same time period that I worled at the Bitter End - it was a siad sight though - Phil Ochs was falling down drunk - I had heard he was depressed because he had never gotten close to Dylan's succes - very sad - he died not long after. This was obviously not a paid performance by Dylan - he was just bouncing around the village with Alan Ginsburg and others.

Lisi Tribble Jay Byrd was the last hooter- Dustin Hoffman based his character "Hawk" in Ishtar on him. Enamel the Camel. The Roches. Rick Danko. David Massengill. George Gerdes. Eric Andersen. Mark Johnson. Gregory Fleeman. Jack Hardy. Robin Williamson. Tret Fure. Ferron. Sammy Walker. Lach. . .--Anderson, Bob Dylan was also below age when he first played there. Mike signed his guardianship forms.

Randy Burns played and you can see his video up on youtube. He was the opening act at the Gaslight Cafe on MacDougal Street during the Urban Folk Revival and he played Gerdes whenever he could, played on the same bill once with Washboard Slim.

In answer to Bob Porco's question-was it James Taylor
